This page contains answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) handled by our support staff, along with some tips and tricks we found useful.

Note: In these answers we follow a shorthand convention for describing user-interface procedures. Menu selections are presented like this:

Where can I learn more about HL7?

HL7 is an acronym for Health Level Seven. It is a standard for electronic data exchange in all health-care environments with an emphasis on hospitals.

How do I capture messages from another system?

First, look at the your address book: 

    Configure->Address Book

The address book contains the IP address and port numbers for remote systems you communicate with along with a local Capture Port and Simulator Port. The Capture Port is used to capture messages from a remote system. The Simulator Port is used to analyze inbound messages with an HL7 specification file.

  1. Configure the remote system to send messages to the Assure Capture Port (you can also change the Capture Port number). 
  2. Select the Assure Capture view.
  3. Click the Options button and set the capture filename and location. You may also delete the existing Capture file. 
  4. Click OK.
  5. Click the Start button.
  6. As messages are received, they are stored in the selected capture file.

How do I play messages to another system?

First, look at the your address book: 

    Configure->Address Book

The address book contains the IP address and port numbers for remote systems you communicate with. If you don't see the desired system, click the New button and add it.

  1. Select the Assure Play view.
  2. Click the Options button.
  3. Select the source file you want to play (this may be a previously captured file).
  4. Select the destination (from the address book).
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click the Start button.
  7. Each message in the play file is sent to the remote system.

How do I simulate another system?

First, look at the your address book: 

    Configure->Address Book

The address book contains the IP address and port numbers for remote systems you communicate with along with a local Capture Port and Simulator Port. The Capture Port is used to capture messages from a remote system. The Simulator Port is used to analyze inbound messages with an HL7 specification file.

When messages are received by the Simulator Port, they are analyzed with a detailed simulator specification file. See Assure Help for details on creating a simulator file.

  1. Configure the remote system to send messages to the Assure Simulator Port (you can also change the Simulator Port number). 
  2. Select the Assure Simulator view.
  3. Click the Options button and set the simulator file and report filename and location. You may also delete the existing Report file.
  4. Click OK. 
  5. Click the Start button.
  6. As messages are received, they are analyzed with the Simulator file and a detailed report is generated.

How do I generate unique messages?

First, look at the your address book: 

    Configure->Address Book

The address book contains the IP address and port numbers for remote systems you communicate with. If you don't see the desired system, click the New button and add it.

  1. Select the Assure Generator view.
  2. Click the options button and set the source file and destination. The first message in the source file is used to generate all messages.
  3. Set the number of messages to send.
  4. In the message tree, select the fields that must be unique for each message and check 'This field must be unique'.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click the Start button.
  7. Messages are generated and sent to the destination system.
